A Fisherman’s Tale

Long before the V&A Waterfront was as you know it today, it was a humble port and trading destination. Back to a time when the hustle and bustle was mostly fishing and tug boats in the Victoria basin, two friends decided there would be nothing better than fish & chips in a box at the docks.

And so, the humble Fishermans Choice was born in 1991.

Our original recipe has been perfected over decades and is exactly what you crave when you want good old fashioned Fish ‘n Chips!

The original shop stood the test of time and as the V&A waterfront evolved around it, the local favourite stayed the same for almost 20 years. With the waterfront expansion in the works, it became time for the shop to reinvent itself and move to a new location.

A fine balance was struck between innovation and staying authentic to the original Fishermans Choice. This new location boasted an amazing view of Table Mountain as well as a full bar service. More tables were added and new menu expansions were enjoyed by our customers from around the world.

Fishermans Choice may have changed, but the delicious fresh fried fish and chips did not - and as the business grew, another change of location was in the works. This time, to the newly revamped and upgraded foodcourt.

The Waterfront’s Original Fish & Chips

With this new quick service concept, the team behind Fisherman’s Choice decided to go back to their roots: Serving up the best fish & chips!

A modernised concept store was created and together with our time tested recipes, made for the stunning new location and customer experience you will find today.

A lot may have changed over the years, but the original partners, and most of the original staff from 1991 are still part of our humble Fish & Chip shop. We take pride in every aspect of the business and make sure that flavour & freshness go hand in hand.
